Hi friends, What do you use for organization in your homeschooling journey? Do you use folders, boxes, or plastic containers to keep your homeschooling materials organized? These items may have a place in your organization system. However, binders and binder covers can be important organization tools. Why Use Binders for Organization?
This is the beginning of the school year and you may be wondering how you can keep your homeschool work organized. The answer? Binders and binder covers! Why? Binders are versatile and fairly inexpensive. They can be organized in a variety of ways and if you don’t like your first organization schema, you can redo it.
How to Use Binders for Organization
Binders can be used in a variety of ways. For homeschooling, binders can be used as portfolios of student work, as lesson planners, as notebooks for students to keep work organized, as research and project planners, as places to store notes, as study guides and references, or as bullet journals.
Help students be more independent by labeling one binder or one section of a binder as “work to do this week” or “work to do for the day” or something similar. Then, children can learn what to do and how much they need to apply themselves to get work done by a set time. They can see a beginning, progress, and an end to the work that needs to be done. They can set goals, finish work, and experience the feeling of accomplishment. This is by no means an extensive or in depth list of how to use binders for organization. I plan to write other posts on binder uses in homeschooling. However, hopefully, you are seeing that binders can be used for more than “just” organization. Binder Covers
Binders are good for organization, but they aren’t complete without binder covers and section labels. Binder covers tell you at a glance what is inside. They are like book covers or title pages. Labels are of course, important for any organization system.
Creating Binder Covers
For some homeschool families, creating binder covers can be a fun first project for both students and teacher. It is a great way to personalize the process and start to get excited about your educational journey.
Binder covers can be drawn, colored, painted, or digitally created to get a desired look. It gives students and teachers alike the permission to be creative in his or her unique way and own the desired look. Creating binder covers can also help solidify your plans, teaching style, and organization structure. This will help both teacher and students. If you aren’t the creative type or don’t have time to create your own binder covers, that is okay. You can explore binder covers by DUO Inspirations.
